Spotify has officially launched audiobooks in Nigeria, allowing users to listen to books alongside their favourite music and podcasts. The service became available on October 14, 2026, with access to a catalogue of more than 350,000 audiobook titles.
The launch is part of Spotify’s plan to expand audiobooks from 22 markets to more than 180 markets worldwide by the end of 2026. The company says the expansion will give authors and publishers access to new audiences while making books more accessible to listeners.
How Much Does Spotify Audiobooks Cost in Nigeria?
Nigerian users can access the service through Audiobooks+, which costs ₦2,300 per month and includes 15 hours of audiobook listening.

The subscription is available to both Spotify Free and Premium users. Unlike eligible Premium plans in some other countries, Nigerian Premium subscribers need separate audiobook access through the add-on.
Users who exhaust their monthly allowance can purchase an additional 10 hours for ₦2,700. They can also buy individual audiobook titles to keep.
Unused listening hours do not roll over to the following billing cycle. This means subscribers need to consider how much they listen each month before choosing a subscription.
What Can Users Expect From Spotify Audiobooks?
Spotify’s audiobook catalogue contains more than 350,000 titles across over 120 languages, giving listeners access to a broad selection of books and genres.
The experience is integrated into the existing Spotify app, allowing users to discover audiobooks alongside music and podcasts. Features include personalised recommendations, automatic bookmarking, cross-device listening and sleep timers.

Another feature, Page Match, allows supported users to connect a physical book with its audiobook version by scanning the book’s ISBN barcode. This makes it easier to switch between reading and listening without losing their place.
However, catalogue availability and subscription options may vary by market.
What the Launch Means for Nigerian Authors
Beyond giving listeners another way to enjoy books, Spotify’s expansion creates a new distribution opportunity for Nigerian authors and publishers.
Through Spotify for Authors, eligible creators can upload, manage and monetise their audiobook content, making their work available to listeners across supported markets.

Spotify has also indicated that developing audiobook catalogues in African markets will take time, with continued collaboration between the company and local publishing communities expected to support growth.
The expansion could help Nigerian writers reach international audiences while giving readers more ways to discover local and international stories.
With audiobooks now available in Nigeria, Spotify is extending its platform beyond music and podcasts into another part of digital entertainment. How quickly the service gains traction locally will depend on catalogue availability, pricing and whether listeners find the monthly subscription worthwhile.
